About Me

My photo
Lucy Corrander Now in Halifax!
Loose and Leafy began on the Dorset coast. Now I'm blogging from urban West Yorkshire (England). Loose and Leafy in Halifax. No sea. Lots of buildings. And a new allotment. The Loose and Leafy blogs are more about seeing than knowing. I'm neither a botanist nor an entomologist so if you see anything wrong . . . say!

STOP PRESS

About me now. Specifically now! In July 2019 I had a stem cell transplant to get rid of Acute Myeloid Lukaemia. It seems to have worked but in the process it swept away childhood inoculations and wiped out all immunities acquired through a lifetime of fighting off germs.
I've been given an anti-cancer drug on compassionate grounds; a pharmaceutical manufacturer provides me with a medication that is not yet on general release. A side affect of this drug is that it reduces my body's ability to fight off infections. So, here I am, alive and healthy but 'vulnerable' - and advised to avoid breathing in bacteria which live in soil.
The government put me in the 'shielded' group to protect me from the current cornona virus so for three months I could not leave the house Blogging about wild plants and an allotment when the only contact I could have with the outside world was through my window, occasionally standing on the doorstep and by asking others to do the allotment for me . . . was a bit of a challenge! But now, although the shielding has been extended by a month, shielded people are allowed, indeed encouraged, to go outside and walks - as long as we stay away from people who are not part of their our everyday household. The new challenge is to get those legs walking again!
